Marriage Formation Programs

With the blessing of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Trenton, parishioners of St. Uriel's who are preparing for marriage may fulfill the parish requirement of pre-marital instruction by going on either on an Engaged Encounter weekend or going to Pre-Cana.  All the couples from St. Uriel's who attended found them to be excellent!  The couples all were very glad they went.

Engaged Encounter

Dates for 2007: February 23-25, March 23-25, May 18-20, June 1-3, October 12-14, November 2-4
Cost: $375.00 per couple

Engaged Encounter is a weekend away for engaged couples to dialogue honestly and intensively about their prospective lives together, their role in the church and society, their strengths and weaknesses, their desires, ambitions, goals, their attitudes about money, sex, children, and family.

Engaged Encounter is Catholic in origin and orientation and specifically designed for verbal sharing between the couple. Spiritual and personal reflection, along with couple dialogue, are the main highlights of the weekend. All couples will gather together for meals and the celebration of Sunday Mass.

Engaged Encounter weekends are held at the Stella Maris Retreat House in Elberon, New Jersey.  To ensure availability of the weekend you choose, registration should take place at least three (3) months in advance. Reservations are limited.  The Encounter weekend begins on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. and concludes approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday.  The cost is $375.00 per couple.  The cost of the weekend includes meals and lodging.  Register online today.  Click here for a list of events.  Payment in full is required at the time of registration.

Pre-Cana
Pre-Cana conferences provide an experience centered on the process of listening and group discussions through which a couple communicates and manifests their own feelings about marriage. With the guidance of married couples and a priest or deacon, couples internalize certain basic concepts of Christian marriage. Times and locations are listed below, along with contact information for registration. The cost is $75 per couple for a parish Pre-Cana conference ($90 for a summer Diocesan Pre-Cana Session).

Click here for a list of events. Payment in full is required at the time of registration. Reservations are limited and should be made well in advance of the Pre-Cana conference.

Please note that while some Pre-Cana programs are completed in one day, others are scheduled in segments over a two or three day period. Couples are required to attend all segments and are expected to participate in the program in its entirety.  Payment in full is required at the time of registration. Reservations are limited and should be made well in advance of the Pre-Cana conference.

For information on either Engaged Encounter or Pre-Cana contact the parish of at St. Uriel's.

Marriage Encounter

National Marriage Encounter is based on Judeo-Christian concepts, beliefs, and morality. National Marriage Encounter invites and encourages married (i.e., male and female) couples of all faiths and those of no religious affiliation to share in this experience and to become an integral part of this movement.

The purpose of National Marriage Encounter is to assist a couple to discover their marriage through ongoing mutual trust and dialogue. This unique method of dialogue means prayerful, personal reflection and mutual sharing, which leads to an enrichment of the marital relationship and growth of the man and woman as individuals and as a couple.  With the family as the fundamental cell of society and the married couple as the heart of the family, the Marriage Encounter experience strengthens families and communities.
